Military Friendly District   

CMCSS is a military-friendly district that is committed to supporting the needs of military-connected students and families. The district has a number of programs and resources in place to help students adjust to the challenges of moving and transitioning to a new school. Our staff and administration understand the unique challenges that children from military families face and are committed to helping students succeed academically as well as in their future endeavors.

A Cold Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service is in effect from 6:00 p.m. tonight through 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, with the coldest single-digit temperatures of this winter season overnight. The delay will provide additional time for temperatures to warm up for the morning commute, with temperatures expected to be above freezing by the afternoon.

🌳 Minglewood Elementary Assistant Principal 🌳

Ania Tinord has been selected as an assistant principal at Minglewood Elementary School. Currently, Tinord serves as the AVID Coordinator and teacher at Kenwood Middle School. She began her career with CMCSS in 2013 and has served in several school-level leadership roles and teaching positions, including Extended Learning Coordinator, After-School Programs Director, Site-Based Induction Specialist and English Language Arts Lead Teacher at West Creek High and Kenwood Middle schools. Tinord earned her M.A.Ed. in Instructional Leadership, M.A.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, and B.S. in English from Austin Peay State University and her A.A.S. and A.A. from Hopkinsville Community College.

When asked to submit a photo to celebrate her recent West Creek High School Teacher of the Year announcement, Ms. Hargett-Slack said, "I asked members of my grade level content team and administrative team to take the photo with me because I believe an individual teacher is only as strong as those around them. “Iron strengthens iron”, and I work with an amazingly strong cohort of teachers and administrators."

For the past 33 years, Ms. Hargett-Slack has motivated students and educators alike. She is proud to be part of the West Creek community for the past five years.

"As a teacher, I LOVE organizing the learning space so students have the necessary time and scaffolding to become skilled thinkers, readers, and grammarians," she shared. "Empowering students with the necessary skills to be deemed college and career-ready brings such joy to my professional life. Furthermore, I love watching my students take ownership of their academic growth by tracking their own data and then working toward a personal best with an emphasis always on GROWTH."

Sra Molina Osorio has spent the past four years teaching 3rd grade at Spanish Immersion Elementary at Barksdale. This year, we are proud to recognize her as one of the school`s Teachers of the Year!

"I am amazed at how much I have learned from my students. Each one of them has taught me something new, whether it’s through their creativity, persistence, or the unique way they see the world," she said. "I’ve learned the power of asking questions and how curiosity sparks excitement in learning. My student’s curiosity encourages me to think deeply about the material and find new ways to make learning exciting and engaging. Their enthusiasm is a daily reminder of the joy of discovery and learning. Most importantly, I’ve learned that every student brings something special to the classroom.
Watching my students succeed is a reminder that the work I do is meaningful and has a lasting effect on their lives. The joy of witnessing their success reignites my passion for teaching and drives me to keep making a difference."

Amanda Buback has been teaching for four years in early childhood education with CMCSS. Before becoming a Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) teacher, Ms. Buback served as an education assistant and substitute teacher.

Ms. Buback shared that her students have taught her a lot over the years. "Especially with our youngest learners, each new group of students reinforces the criticality of teaching social-emotional learning and prevocational skills prior to challenging them to grow their academic strengths," she said.
